Sports meet

Every year, each school in Sierra Leone has a sports meet. The one for the school in Banta was this past week. We traveled up to Banta for the occasion. They have four teams that they call houses- blue, red, green, yellow. The houses are names after the different countries that COTN is working in. I was supporting green house.
Sports day is the highlight of the year and everyone in the surrounding villages comes to support the house that their child is in. The children get all decked out with fake hair and makeup for the girls. Everyone is in the best of spirits.
There are several events that would be done in an American track meet, but then there are others that are specifically African events, such as Carry the Baby, and Balance the Board on head while you run.
It was fun to watch the kids have a chance to run and play. Sadly, green house lost, but we still had fun.

Haha! you just had a sports meet too? that's awesome! how crazy to think how different our two days must've been, yet at the same time, its cool how some things are cross-cultural!
